Bank of Spain, the real one, not the one seen on the TV show Money Heist.
The Bank of Spain and its vault
From the Cibeles square you can see the Bank of Spain, but more importantly, hiding deep inside is what you cannot see: a vault located 38 meters underground. It’s called the ‘Chamber of Gold’, a vault containing most of the Spanish gold reserves; ingots and also old coins, like an old coin from the 12th century.
Many security measures protect the chamber, like a 16-ton door; but the most surprising and curious is the security measure related to the most famous fountain in Madrid, La Cibeles. In the event that the alarm goes off, the steel doors will automatically close, the corridors would be sealed off and the whole area would be flooded by the same water feeding the Cibeles fountain, using pipes that lead right to it!
No one as ever tried to break into the chamber (or that’s the official version), but the water is there, waiting for the occasion ;)

This vault with gold has become very popular since the 3rd season of Money Heist was released on Netflix! We have to say just one thing, the show isn’t that far from reality! But we also have to admit, it is not exactly the same, a TV show does need some artistic license!

Bolt cutters won’t cut through 36″ concrete and steel reinforced wall encased in 15 ” titanium plate each side with a 400 ton water pressure chamber hanging above your head about to drown you as soon as you step foot on the floor to tip the weight scale sensor…. but hey feel free to make the news if you can even make it to the reception desk.
